What is Christening/baptism?
Baptism is about new beginnings; it is about being immersed into the very life of God through the grace offered us through His Son Jesus Christ. Baptism is about receiving what God has freely given and joyfully celebrating the great love He has shown us in Christ. Baptism is a response to God's love - a desire and a commitment to respond to God's call to follow the example of Jesus Christ. It is also a celebration, a time to come together with family and friends; remembering that you are loved by God, are part of a wider community and have a place with God's people.
Everyone is welcome to have their children christened in their parish church. During the christening service your child will be baptized and with the support of the church, you and godparents, your child begins an amazing journey of faith.
All you need to know about planning and going to a Church of England christening can be found on: churchofenglandchristenings.org. It also includes information about another church service to say thank you to God for your baby.
Christenings for Teenagers & Adults
Christenings, or Baptism as we often call it, can happen at any age, though, like these candidates in the picture, you would normally be confirmed at the same time, since you have reached an age at which you can make your own choices. If this is something you may want, please get in touch to arrange for us to meet up with you and explain more about it.
