St. Martin's Graveyard

Graveyard Update

A meadow area has been left to grow again this year, in Section F of the graveyard, to encourage wildlife and wild flowers.

If you have difficulty accessing your loved one's grave, please get in touch with the office and we will arrange to have the grave and a path to it mowed for you.

Our Sexton is working very hard to mow and strim all other sections, but the graveyard is vast. It takes about 5 weeks to mow and strim all areas, and at this time of year new growth appears extremely quickly. Our Sexton is employed for 15 hours per week, and works alone, aside from one occasional volunteer, so we appreciate your patience with us.

We are always grateful for offers of help, and for those families who maintain their own plots. We receive no external financial support for the upkeep of the churchyard, the cost is borne entirely by the church.

The rules about what decorations and monuments are permitted in our churchyard are set by the Diocese and can be found below. Please do be careful with vases and other items left on graves – please do not leave china, glass or plastics as they can be degraded by the weather and become very hazardous for anyone working around them. Our Sexton should be able to work safely and without harassment as he maintains our grounds.

Many thanks
